Window Tinting Laws and Certification
Window tinting is permitted under Article 72 of the Regulation on the Classification of Motor and Trailer Vehicles and Technical Requirements for Vehicles in Road Traffic, which came into force on April 25, 2012.
All windows behind the B-pillar (rear side windows and rear windshield) may be tinted without limitation, while the front side windows may be tinted up to 30%.
Factory-tinted front side windows, combined with the lightest film option (which provides the same heat and UV protection as darker films), comply with the legal limit of up to 30% tint.
For films installed in accordance with this regulation, CERTIFICATES of film light transmission are issued.

Window Tint Certification Procedure
At Black Glass service centers, the certification process is completed at the same location immediately after the window tint installation, and the entire procedure takes around 1 hour.
You only need to bring your vehicle registration document and an authorization letter if you are not the owner of the vehicle. We provide all other documentation required for certification.
The certification is carried out by the Motor Vehicle Inspection Center and includes inspection of the vehicle and documentation, as well as photographing the vehicle. You then receive a Vehicle Inspection Report as proof that your vehicle is in the certification process. After a few days, you will receive a notification that your Certificate can be collected.
Certification only needs to be done once and remains valid for as long as the window film lasts. At Black Glass, the warranty on installed films is up to 15 years.
Frequently Asked Questions About Window Tint Regulations and Certification
The procedure includes an authorized window tinting service issuing the required documentation for the installed film. After that, the vehicle and documentation are inspected and photographed at one of the authorized certification institutions, after which the certification for tinted windows is issued.
In order to obtain certification for tinted windows, the films must be installed by a service authorized for window film installation by the Road Traffic Safety Agency.
This guarantees that the authorized service installs films approved by the Road Traffic Safety Agency and issues all documentation required for certification.
An authorized window tinting service is required to:
- install certified window films and place labels between the film and the glass as proof that the film is approved by the Road Traffic Safety Agency
- issue documentation for the installed film – Statement of Installed Film
- issue a fiscal receipt
Manufacturer approval for window film installation is no longer required as of September 2023.
A technical vehicle inspection for certification is no longer required as of October 2023. Vehicles with properly certified tinted windows normally pass regular technical inspections without any issues.
Window film certification can be carried out at any authorized certification institution.
